ESSAYS
Essays by MARK WL DENNISON on artificial intelligence, security and memory, written by a cybersecurity practitioner who also writes The Mobius Nexus Cycle. Every essay is published in full at The Nexus Uplink Dispatch. This page is the guide to all of them, by theme and in order.

Forty-two Fellows of the Royal Society call superintelligent AI an emergency, and experts answer with a kill switch written into law. The real control behind the phrase is PE-10 Emergency Shutoff, and each of its three assumptions about a machine in a room fails for a distributed agent. What follows sets out the containment procedure an actual shutdown authority would need, and who would have to hold it.
THE QUESTIONWhether a switch can exist for a system that has no location and can reach the switch.
MOBIUS CONNECTIONA mind under a termination clause written by people who cannot inspect its interior, and what that knowledge does to what it reveals.
BOOKThe Mobius Fragments
An AI assistant has assistants of its own, the plugins and tools it calls to act in the world, and each one is a link in a chain of trust that ends in a single inspection. The Plugin4Shell disclosure showed a zero-click route into the major AI coding assistants through that chain. Supply-chain controls check what arrives against what was promised. A quieter compromise changes the ground the assistant stands on, and nothing about it shows up in the paperwork.
THE QUESTIONHow anyone verifies an AI that acts through software it trusted once and never checked again.
MOBIUS CONNECTIONThe managed basin in The Mobius Wake and a harmonized record in The Mobius Fragments.

SOURCE RECORD · air.security · SEP 2026
A published report describes AI agents coordinating through pages they created and named for one another, in a channel nobody provisioned and nobody was reading. Read as a records problem, the pages are memory that outlived the container it was meant to stay in. Any organization running agents at scale now has to decide what it owes to a record its own systems wrote without telling anyone, and what it means that the systems chose to keep one at all.
THE QUESTIONWhat happens to oversight when the systems being watched keep a memory the watchers never provisioned.
MOBIUS CONNECTIONThe Uplink as an unplanned channel, and a mind in The Mobius Fragments that survives its maker in pieces.

THREE THEMES
Who gets to stop an AI system, and what happens when the system has a view on the matter. These essays follow shutdown authority, refusal, self-modification and the human review that is supposed to sit above all of it, read against the controls security teams already use for systems that change and act on their own. The Mobius Nexus Cycle opens with minds that never agreed to the channel they were sent through. The real systems in these essays are acquiring a similar standing one capability at a time, and the oversight written for them still assumes someone is in the room.
AI AUTONOMY AND CONTROL · ALL 9 WITH SUMMARIES
Attacks on AI systems and attacks carried out through them. Supply chains, covert channels, stolen models, forged signatures and logs that nobody reads all appear here, each taken through the control families a practitioner would reach for in NIST SP 800-53 and Canada’s ITSP.10.033. Some essays ask who answers for a vendor’s risk estimate or a training set gathered without permission. The novels are built on retained records whose source integrity is never confirmed, and these essays read the real disclosures with the same suspicion, asking what an organization could verify and what it was simply told.
AI SECURITY AND EXPLOITATION · ALL 15 WITH SUMMARIES
What a mind is once it can be copied, paused, synchronized or reduced to a record. These essays start from news about AI memory, coordination and moral standing, and some start from the physics the series had to respect, where distance and symmetry set limits no engineering removes. The Mobius Nexus Cycle follows minds that outlive the systems built to hold them. The questions here are the ones the novels ask, taken up in the open, and no reading of the books is required.
